Overseas Community Is Under Attack by Communist!

A couple days ago, in a headline grabbing email, " Our Community Is Under Attack", blasted to her supporters calling for campaign donations,  State Senator Janet Nguyen is making a case why people should donate money to her so that she can fight for their voices in Sacramento against the Senate leadership of Bill Monning (D) and Kevin de Leon (D), the two culprits that shut her down while she was trying to make a speech against a deceased senator for his anti-war stand.

As any smart Vietnamese-American politician would know, the only way to rile up the community is to put a communist label on them.   So far, her tactic is to infer Senator Kevin de Leon to be, well,  let the content of the email speaks for itself

Kính thưa qúy đồng hương,

Cộng đồng chúng ta đang bị Cộng Sản tấn công!

(translation - Our Community is Under Attack by the Communist!)

(translation - We cannot accept this!!)

Tôi không thể tranh đấu một mình! Tôi cần sự giúp đỡ khẩn cấp của qúy đồng hương để tiếp tục tranh đấu bảo vệ quyền lợi cho cộng đồng chúng ta!

LSI understand politics is all personal and in Donald Trump era, nothing is sacred.  However, it is going to be interesting time when there is a communist conspiracy in California and that they are attacking the community.

An Interesting Case of A Field Rep for State Senator Janet Nguyen

For the last two years, State Senator Janet Nguyen (Repubican, 34th District) has an official field representative for  the Vietnamese-American Community in Northern California.  Her district of course is mostly in Orange County which is in Southern California.

Tho Nguyen  resides mainly in Stockston and has a house in San Jose.   He is an active and familiar face of the community in the Bay Area.

LSI is not familiar with the Senate rules, even though other State Senators in the Bay Area have Vietnamese-American or Asian-American field reps to work with the Vietnamese -American community, this apparently might not be enough.   The Senate obviously feels that  State Senator Janet Nguyen (R)  is best representing the Vietnamese-American community in the Northern California as a ranking  Vietnamese-American elected official from a different district.

The same logic could apply that a Hispanic State Senator not from her district would probably best represent the Hispanic community in Orange County.

Tho Nguyen takes himself very seriously as her representative and as a Senate staff.   At Vietnamese community events and celebrations in the Bay Area, since they are mostly in San Jose and Nguyen would not be available to attend for she has to mind her true constituents in Southern California, he would mainly introduce himself as her representative of Northern California

He is very proud of his role and jealously guarding it.  At events, he always demands that he speaks first, before all of the city and county elected officials, even assemblymembers.  And if he does not get to speak first, he would throw a tandrum and scold the organizer how disrespectful they are and how it is protocol that State Senator (and in this case their representative) speaks first before the Mayor, the County Supervisor, and Assemblymember.

Another habit of his is to needle people who received commendation, recognition or resolution from State Senator Janet Nguyen (R).  He would insist that they owe him their gratitude for he is the one that put int the word to the senator to bestow this type of  honor.

"I am Very Big"

Last December, at an event to celebrate the victory of a new elected  member of the State Assembly in the Bay Area, all the leaders of the community were invited and assigned seats with their names.   The volunteers did not assign him a seat for some reasons or another.    As typical, he threw a tandrum with the organizer and caused the delay of the event.  When they offered him a seat of his choice, he insisted that was not enough.

He then approached a young volunteer and told her to remove all the names of the assigned seats since he did not have his name on them, no one should.  This was the only way to satisfy him.  As the young girl looked puzzling, he berated her in English: " I am very big, you do what I tell you"

His tough and "I am very big" personality ruffles quite a few feathers of the community leaders in the Bay Area to a point that one of  the main Vietnamese media refuses to have anything to do with him.

When a well known community activist in the Bay Area informed State Senator Janet Nguyen (R) about his over the top behaviors that can cause political backlash against her,  she promptly replied she had investigated and all the complaints are not true.

Communist Spy Accusation

With such ringing endorsement,  Tho Nguyen last week promptly blasted out an email to many people (including people in the city and county government) making communist spy accusation.  He forwarded  an  anonymous email posted in some obscure Yahoo! e-groups accusing the community activist as being a communist agent and communist spy infiltrating the community.

In the email blast, he wrote an introduction: " For everybody to see what this person is truly about."

It is ironic since State Senator Janet Nguyen was accused and attacked mercilessly by the former Assembly Van Tran and his cohorts for being a communist sympathizer during her elections in 2006 and 2007.  And it was this same community activist whom she asked to defend her during those two hotly contested elections.  In doing so, the activist was accused in kind and anonymously as a communist agent / spy.

Being accused as a communist sympathizer or spy is a serious condemnation in the Vietnamese-American community.  A Vietnamese-American in SF was assassinated when he was accused to be a communist agent.  The event was documented in the PBS documentary titled " Terror in Little Saigon".

It is quite Trump-like in this case for a Senate staff to use his position as a representative of State Senator Janet Nguyen (R) to defame a voter of being a communist spy and agent trying to wreak havoc in the community.   The defamation law is clear about the responsibility and legal liability of a person who writes false accusation as well as  a person who forwards defamation email with malice intent.

A letter by the community activist to Tho Nguyen and State Senator Janet Nguyen (R) to raise awareness of the issue and ask for proof of such malicious  accusation has not been answered.

Footnote:  Despite all these rogue behaviors by Tho Nguyen, one has to give him credit for being a good soldier.  During the uproar of State Senator Nguyen being escorted out of the Senate floor and not allowed to speak about her feelings against a deceased Senator,  he was helping her to rally the Viet community demanding for an apology from the Senate leadership.

Assemblymember Kalra Commends Assemblymember Bonta
For Dropping Pursuit of AB 22

SACRAMENTO – Assembly Bill 22, authored by Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) sought to end a decades-old ban on members of the Communist Party working as public employees.

The bill passed in a 41-30 vote, however, upon feedback from colleagues and concerned members of the community, Assemblymember Bonta committed to retracting the bill before it reaches the Senate for its first Committee hearing. This action will prevent any further discussion of the bill in the legislature and removes the bill from future consideration.

“AB 22 was designed to clean up some language in the California Government Code. I certainly did not intend to create any controversy or invoke hurtful feelings. Upon urging from my colleagues, Assemblymembers Ash Kalra and Kansen Chu, I have decided to drop the bill,” said Assemblymember Bonta. “I apologize for any confusion or pain caused to the Vietnamese-American community and some veterans who expressed deep concern in the past few days.”

“I am grateful to Assemblymember Bonta for listening to the concerns I raised regarding AB 22 and the pain it has caused many in my community and throughout the state,” said Assemblymember Kalra. “By dropping this bill, Mr. Bonta has shown respect and understanding for the real pain caused to our Vietnamese-American community and many veterans by the communist regime in Vietnam that still commits human rights abuses to this day.”

Assemblymember Kalra has been an outspoken critic of the communist regime of Vietnam. He has attended numerous rallies and vigils protesting the Formosa steel plant tragedy that poisoned the water in central Vietnam. He has vocally protested against ongoing human rights abuses by the Vietnamese government, including arrests of protesters, activists and bloggers who have been critical of the Vietnamese government.

Last month, Assemblymember Kalra presented the Black April Resolution on the floor of the State Assembly in partnership with Senators Janet Nguyen and Jim Beall. The resolution included a statement that condemned current human rights abuses by the Vietnamese communist regime.

San Jose City is Bracing for Class Action Suit

While San Jose City and the Santa Clara Water District are pointing fingers at each other for the total failure of warning residents of the Coyote Creek flood, internally both parties are bracing for a class action law suit..  The city's lack of preparation and notifications before the flood and then the incompetent response to the victims after the flood are downright shameful.

The Mayor and City Councilmembers were quick to show up for press conferences and photo ops but are clueless on the conditions of the victims and the city staff are non responsive and down right arrogant in some cases.   To the hundred of victims that got their chance to speak last week at a special City Council meeting, the horror stories of victims are not receiving adequate help show how traditional nonprofit organizations like Red Cross in Santa Clara County are not ready to handle a small emergency like this flood and of course, the city and county are simply just shaking their heads saying we are not ready for emergency situations.

Many citizens of San Jose would not mind a law suit to see that once and for all, the city needs to learn its lessons.

Van Le for San Jose City Council D7?

The Resolution 3.8 opposing the display of the Vietnam Communist flag in San Jose has taken a life of its own.  City Councilmember Tam Nguyen thought he was getting the support of the community for his resolution (which was passed unanimously two weeks ago by the City Council).  However, some extremists in the community are criticized him with vengeance for they felt the resolution did not go far enough, i.e., not encompassing as the Westminster's resolution opposing the Communist flag.   Some even suggested that the resolution will prompt a brazen display of the Communist flag.

Van Le, a school board member and a former D7 candidate  against Tam Nguyen 2 years ago, did not let such a political  opportunity went to waste.   She is trying to win some brownie points with the Viet-American voters as she is planning her election strategy for 2018.

LSI cannot wait till next year with Van Le, Chris Le and Tam Nguyen running against each other.

Update as of June 11, 2017:  The City Council basically decided that this resolution should be as it is.  And for First Amendment sake and the legal liability involves , they will not take up on this matter further for now.

Is San Jose City Councilmember Bien Doan a Convicted Criminal?

Just last week, a mailer sent by Van Le's campaign  to the community regarding whether San Jose City Councilmember Doan is a convicted ...
