It’s far too early to know if the House Class of 2008 will have a collective identity, like the Watergate babies of 1974 or the revolutionary Republicans of 1994. With 55 members, the group elected in November is considerably smaller than those famed classes, and the 33 Democrats and 22 Republicans as yet don’t appear to have any central organizing ideology.
But already, more than a few characters on both sides of the aisle are attracting notice, some for their unique backstories, some for their quick rise and others as players to watch in the future.
................Quang Pham (R), age 45, Independent Businessowner, Marine Corps veteran, community leader, and author of “A Sense of Duty: Our Journey from Vietnam to America” (Paperback coming from Random House on April 20, 2010).
Quang “Q” Pham is running for Congress in California’s 47th District. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lathian Health, a provider of pharmaceutical marketing data and services. He was born and raised in Viet Nam and arrived in California following the evacuation of Saigon.
He then graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Economics before serving as a Marine Corps helicopter pilot in Operation Desert Storm. Quang sits on the board of THINK Together, an afterschool provider in Santa Ana, and current chairs the Marines Memorial Association’s Finance Committee.
